Abdominal Radiology Goals

Be able to recognize and discuss the following

  • The normal anatomy visible on the plain abdomen radiograph

  • Abnormal patterns or structures on the plain abdominal radiograph including bowel obstruction and ileus.

  • Radiographic patterns required to make the diagnosis

  • The radiological appearance of common diseases found on the abdominal radiograph including ileus, obstruction, free air.

  • Pathology on abdominal radiographs requiring urgent care.

  • The role of GI contrast studies and the findings in GI diseases

  • The role of CT and US studies and the findings in GI disease
